Justin Wills

Justin Wills is a student at Liberty High School and lives in Naoma. Justin doesn't think that that Coal River Valley is well off, but thinks it is still nice. “There's not a lot around here, but we make do with what we've got.” For him, the best part is that most people are friendly, and it is peaceful.

He'd like to see what people are doing other than coal mining to make their living, but for now “coal is good because it runs everything around here, so I don't think we should get rid of it. Around here, its all we have to rely on – we're forced to go to the mines. I really don't want to go to the mines, but if I got to do it to make money, then I will.”

He would like to see more businesses in the area. Whitesville, once a booming town, could do to have more things to do or places to go. For Justin, a McDonald's would be a step in the right direction.

In his spare time he does odd jobs, such as cutting grass, and plays video games. His papa used to have animals and a garden when Justin was little, but they don't garden or raise livestock anymore. If he could, he would like to start a small business, but thinks doing so in the Coal River Valley would be challenging.

"Around here you wouldn't get much business unless you had something to do with the mines. If you had a business around here, I just don't think it'd get much business. Whitesville used to be a booming town.  There was actually stuff to do, to keep kids busy.  Now along Route 3, there's nothing to do.” He adds that unless you get a degree from college after high school he doesn't think you could create your own job.
